Major Fire Breaks Out at Los Angeles Chevron Refinery

(MENAFN) A large-scale fire ignited late Thursday at Chevron’s El Segundo oil refinery in Los Angeles County, California, according to local media reports.

Emergency services, including firefighters and police officers, rushed to the facility at 324 West El Segundo Boulevard after receiving multiple calls reporting an explosion.

The refinery’s in-house fire brigade is actively working to contain the flames and has, as of now, successfully kept the fire from spreading to other parts of the site, the reports stated.

Authorities have not confirmed any injuries or evacuations at this time. “The El Segundo Police Department is not aware of any immediate injuries or evacuations,” the department said.

The origin and exact timing of the fire remain under investigation.

According to Chevron’s official website, the El Segundo facility—operational since 1911—is the largest refinery on the U.S. West Coast. It processes over 276,000 barrels of crude oil each day.
