Secret Service Agent Accidentally Shoots Himself

(MENAFN) A United States Secret Service agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden’s protective detail unintentionally shot himself at Philadelphia International Airport on Friday morning, the agency confirmed to a news agency.

“An on-duty US Secret Service special agent suffered a non-life-threatening injury from a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon,” spokesperson Nate Herring stated in an official announcement.

The occurrence took place shortly after 8:30 a.m. during a protective assignment, the agency noted, emphasizing that the protectee was not present and that operations were not affected.

No additional individuals were harmed, and the agent was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition, according to the statement.

The Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, the agency added.

An official familiar with the matter told the news agency that the former first lady was at the airport at the time of the shooting, but she was not in close proximity when it occurred.
