Goodwin Made Releases 'Any Toll, Any Road' in Honor of Father’s Heavenly Birthday

A deeply personal song inspired by loss and longing, released on March 30 to honor Ken Goodwin’s late father and the universal desire for one more moment.
The inspiration for the track began with a moment familiar to many Ventura County locals, a drive down the Conejo Grade along the U.S. 101 Freeway from Newbury Park into Camarillo. As Goodwin approached the Camarillo Springs Road exit, he noticed a winding road climbing into the hills beside the freeway.
“For a moment, it looked like a road that could lead straight up to Heaven,” Goodwin recalls.
At the time, Goodwin was already carrying the loss of his father, who passed away in February 2014. That image stayed with him and gradually took on deeper meaning, evolving into a reflection on grief, love, and the lengths someone would go for one more moment with a loved one.
“That image stuck with me. I kept thinking about how far someone would go just to see a loved one again,” he said.
That thought ultimately became the foundation of the song’s central message:
“If there really was a road like that, a road that could take you back to someone you love, most of us wouldn’t hesitate. We’d pay any toll, take any road.”
Blending intimate storytelling with a cinematic emotional build, “Any Toll, Any Road” captures a universal feeling: the longing to reconnect with someone who is gone. While rooted in Goodwin’s personal experience, the song extends far beyond a single story.
“It started with my dad, but the song is really for anyone who has lost someone they love — a parent, a spouse, a child, or a friend. That feeling of wanting just one more moment is something almost everyone understands.”
